This article reminded me of the song “Colors of the Wind” in Pocahontas. In the song one of the lyrics say, “You think you own whatever land you land on. The earth is just a dead thing you can claim.” This line is related to the article because the Native Americans are living peacefully in North Dakota but all of a sudden, there are people that wants to build a pipeline that may contaminate the Mississippi River. When the Native Americans tribe begin to protest, the police gets mad and starts to arrests them, but I believe they have the right to be mad because they can’t just got there and build something the people aren’t okay with. In Pocahontas, the white man thinks that they’re in charge of everywhere they go and can claim any land they see and kill any Indians that they see. However, in the end, the white man and Indian talked out the problems and came up with a compromise. Therefore if the Native Americans and North Dakotans talk out their side of the story, they might be able to come up with a compromise.
